Let’s talk V2G EV for it’s the future for now. In recent years, the rise of electric vehicles (EVs) has sparked a growing interest in bidirectional chargers. These chargers, also known as two-way chargers. Those that have the remarkable ability to charge an EV’s battery and also discharge power back into the electrical grid. I mean or even power a home during emergencies. This is groundbreaking technology. For it’s referred to as vehicle-to-grid (V2G). I like to call it V2G EV.

Thereby specifically focusing on V2G. I mean as well as its related variations V2H (Vehicle-to-Home). Then also V2L (Vehicle-to-Load).

ALL for V2G EV and the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). That’s commonly referred to as an EV charger. Now that we have a foundational understanding of bidirectional charging, let’s explore its diverse applications.

Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G): Using EV and Empowering the Electrical Grid

One of the most prominent applications of bidirectional charging technology is Vehicle-to-Grid. For it also is known as V2G. In this scenario, an EV serves as a mobile energy storage unit. For that’s so capable of exporting energy back into the grid.  Especially when the demand is high³. By tapping into the combined power of thousands of EVs connected to the grid equals MW. For V2G EV has the potential to revolutionize energy storage.  That’s as well as generation on a massive scale.

Vehicle-to-Home (V2H): Harnessing EV Power for Your Home

Another remarkable application of bidirectional chargers is Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), which enables an V2G EV to power a home or business. This concept relies on the large battery capacity of EVs to store excess solar energy or cheap off-peak electricity, reducing household electricity costs and promoting energy independence⁵. In fact, the average EV has a battery capacity of around 65kWh, equivalent to almost five Tesla Powerwalls⁶.
