LS Energy Solutions (LS-ES) signed a contract with cleantech integrator Ameresco to supply an AiON-ESS energy storage system for a 6 MW / 6 MWh project in Fort Detrick, Maryland. The project will supplement an existing 18MW solar facility and is expected to be operational in early 2023.

“We’re thrilled to be working with LS Energy Solutions to provide a dependable, all-in-one energy storage solution for Fort Detrick.” said Tony Colonnese, VP of Energy Security Solutions at Ameresco.

During the project’s 20-year operating life, the AiON-ESS units will help the Fort Detrick Army Garrison lower its total electricity spend. This will be achieved by participating in frequency regulation, demand response, and energy supply markets within PJM, the world’s largest wholesale electricity market. The storage system will be microgrid-ready to support Army’s resiliency goals at the Garrison in the future.

Launched in late 2021, AiON-ESS is a flexible, modular AC energy storage solution available in two models for 1-hour and 2- to 4-hour applications. The AiON-ESS offers a variety of configurations to address a range of power and energy use cases, from 1 MW to multi-100-MW utility-scale applications. To ensure compliance with the highest safety standards, the Power Series has received a UL 9540 certification.

“We are honored to work with Ameresco to reduce utility costs and enhance the energy infrastructure at the Ft. Detrick Army Garrison,” commented Steve Fludder, CEO of LS Energy Solutions. “Our AiON-ESS provides all AC and DC energy storage functions in a single, easy to install and commission unit. We look forward to deploying more of these systems with Ameresco in similarly critical applications.”

LS-ES will also support the project with warranties and replacement services for the AiON-ESS systems to ensure economic optimization throughout the project’s lifetime.

We have a ton video interviews and additional content on our YouTube page. Recently we debuted Power Forward! — a collaboration with BayWa r.e. to discuss higher level industry topics as well as best practices / trends for running a solar business today.

Our longer running side project is The Pitch — in which we have awkward discussions with solar manufacturers and suppliers about their new technology and ideas so that you don’t have to. We’ve discusses everything from residential rail-less deck attaching and home solar financing to large-scale energy storage value stacking and utility-driven new home solar + storage microgrids.

We also post our Project of the Year announcements there! Interviews with this year’s winners will be up starting the week of Nov. 8. Head there and subscribe today to stay on top of all this extra stuff.
